The participants comprising the children, their family members and caregivers were invited to the party as staff from Starbucks went around entertaining the children through sing-along songs. Assisted by PHAK Marketing staff and Paediatrics Ward’s Senior Staff Nurse, Ee Pei Ling, there was also a cake-cutting session and everyone was treated with light finger food and tea drinks from Starbucks.

The children were presented with special gift packs by PHAK and Pfizer as tokens for Children’s Day. Rozyliana Md Nor, mother of little Irfan Nidal was most pleased with the hospital’s initiative to celebrate Children’s Day for the young patients at the ward. “Through such activities, I’m glad that my son was able to enjoy himself with his peers in spite of him being hospitalized. PHAK did a commendable job organising such child-centred events at Paediatrics Ward to allow them to have fun”, she remarked.
The hospital continued on with a second Children’s Day celebration at SK St. Francis, organized by the Malacca Tourism Association (MTA) in early November. The primary school children were filled with excitement with various activities being lined-up by the school, including performances by different participants and free health consultations on child obesity by PHAK’s dietitian, Norul Emyshahida. PHAK also sponsored lucky draw gifts to reward the school goers.

The final stop to PHAK’s Children’s Day celebration was to the Happiness Centre for the Mentally Disabled Children in Klebang Kecil where the consultants and staff handed over donations to the children. PHAK last visited the centre one year ago for a similar cause to give aid to the special children and has returned as an initiative towards their corporate social responsibility. Roy Collar, founder of the centre expressed his appreciation to the hospital’s kind offerings and thanked the PHAK staff for their heartfelt donations. “The centre survives through donations from the public all year through and we are always in need of food supply and basic necessities such as adult diapers and toiletries; therefore, we are most thankful for PHAK’s contributions as any amount of donation can help in sustaining our centre for the long run”, he said.

PHAK’s Chief Executive Officer, Gan Kong Hoe commented, “Our Children’s Day celebration this year has a special significance as we are giving back to more than just our young patients, but also local school goers and not forgetting our special children. Children are our best hope for the future, and we should rejoice in a day celebrated to cherish them. The hospital is proud to give back to our young minds as we continue to do our part to care for our community through our corporate social responsibility commitments”.
