Hospital’s emergency response team leaps into action

AYER KEROH, 11 January 2012 – A plane crash was staged in close proximity to Kolej Antarabangsa Yayasan Melaka recently as part of Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh (PHAK)’s annual mass casualty incident exercise to test the preparedness of their Emergency Response Team (ERT). The operation was implemented in cooperation with the Fire Department, Police Department, Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health, with a total of more than 150 participants including hospital employees and volunteers from the Pantai College of Nursing and Health Science.

The successful drill which commenced at 8.30 p.m., was based on a scenario with a total of 15 simulated casualties playing various levels of trauma. Four ambulances were rushed to the scene, evacuating those “wounded” to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

The external disaster drill, conducted in a most realistic manner, aims to measure the readiness and efficiency of the ERT alongside government bodies to give them the experience needed to make the right decisions in case of an emergency. Such initiatives are in line with Pantai’s commitment to continuous improvement in its provision of quality services.
