Appendicitis 2

Appendicitis happens when the appendix becomes inflamed. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped pouch attached to the colon on the lower right side of the abdomen.

It usually causes pain in the lower right side of the abdomen. However, for many people, the pain starts near the belly button before moving to the lower right. As the inflammation gets worse, the pain becomes more severe.

Anyone can get appendicitis, but it is most common among people aged 10 to 30. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and, in most cases, surgery to remove the appendix.
