Fever of 3.5 years old Child
Hi Dr. My child has developed fever but the fever is high 38C to 39+C at the neck area and armpit. The head is at lower temperature. The fever reduced after I gave her 3ml of Axcel Paracetamol 250mg. However, the fever comes and go. She did vomit abit when I gave her rice and soup....1. Since the high temperature is high at neck, can I assume that it is related to her throat?2. Is the paracetamol dosage correct? (She is about 12kg)3. When should I bring her to see doctor?Thank you.
Dear Sir/Madam,
We extend our sincere gratitude for choosing Pantai Hospital Malaysia for your healthcare requirements.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns about your child's health. We understand how worrying it can be when your child is unwell, and we hope to provide some guidance.
1. High Temperature at the Neck Area:
It's possible that the fever and higher temperature around the neck could be related to a throat issue, but it's not certain without further examination. The neck area can feel warmer if there is inflammation or infection in the throat, such as a sore throat, tonsillitis, or even an upper respiratory infection.
2. Paracetamol Dosage:
Based on your child’s weight (12kg), the dosage of Axcel Paracetamol (250mg) you administered appears to be appropriate. However, please ensure you follow the recommended dosing schedule, and if you are unsure, it’s always good to consult your healthcare provider.
3. When to Seek Medical Attention:
Given that the fever is recurring and your child has experienced vomiting after eating, we recommend that you bring her to see a doctor if:
o The fever persists for more than 48 hours despite medication.
o There are any signs of dehydration (e.g., fewer wet diapers, dry mouth, or lethargy).
o Your child appears unusually drowsy, has difficulty breathing, or has difficulty swallowing.
o Vomiting continues or worsens.
If you notice any of these symptoms, or if you feel concerned about her overall condition, we suggest seeking immediate medical attention at your nearest clinic or hospital.
Feel free to reach us for further assistance.
