HEEL SPURS
Both heels got heel spurs.Doing physio. Surgery or steroids can help?

Answer:
Heel spur can be of 2 types. It can be on the plantar aspect / sole area which we call it plantar fascitis or on the dorsal aspect / directly above the heel we call it Archilles Tendinopathy. In majority of the cases, the initial phase of the treatment will begin with physiotherapy with its outcome greatly depending on technique and how compliant the patient is. With Physiotherapy, it will take months for them to implement the technique and many of the them become non compliant to the treatment.

Steroid injection is an effective way for an immediate relief from the pain but it will not last forever.

The best way to tackle heel spurs is through multi disciplinary approach in which soon after the steroid injection is given the patient is asked to undergo few courses of physiotherapy in the form of muscle stretching and to modify their shoes to get a lasting effect of the treatment pursued. This will require the patient to be compliant for it to have long lasting effect or else the condition will recur
