Hi. I recently went to Klinik Kesihatan Greentown to buy HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).  I have been exposed to unprotected sex within 24 hours so they gave me this pep pills for the course of 1 month. The doctor ask me to take it around 9pm every night. I have taken it around 5pm & its my first day of taking the pill. Can i continue to take it 5pm everyday instead of 9pm?

Answer:
I'm glad you sought medical help promptly after potential exposure to HIV. Taking HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) within 24 hours is crucial for prevention. It's important to follow the prescribed regimen precisely to maximize its efficacy. Here are some additional steps you can take:

1. **Complete the Full Course:** Take the PEP medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It's essential to complete the full course. Missing doses can reduce the effectiveness of PEP.

2. **Practice Safe Sex:** While you're on PEP, it's crucial to practice safe sex by using condoms consistently and correctly. This will help prevent the transmission of not only HIV but other sexually transmitted infections as well.

3. **Regular Follow-up:** Ensure you attend all follow-up appointments as recommended by your healthcare provider. They will monitor your health, assess your response to PEP, and provide any additional support or guidance needed.

4. **Seek Support:** Going through this experience can be stressful. Don't hesitate to reach out to a counselor or support group for emotional support during this time.

Remember, PEP is not 100% effective, so it's important to get tested for HIV at the appropriate intervals following potential exposure. If you have any concerns or experience side effects while on PEP, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Your health is a priority, and seeking timely medical advice is key.

PEP medications are time sensitive , taking medication at the same time everyday is of utmost importance
