Irregular heartbeat
Im 34yo with underlying Hyperthyroidism (normal TFT) Mother of 2 still breastfeeding baby, sedentary not active. BMI 18, Lipid profile normal rangeSometimes i had irregular heartbeat, maybe once every 1-2 months while at rest. Ecg previously normal. Do i need to do stress ecg test?

Answer:
Irregular heart beat could be a sign of overactive thyroid hormone. Since you did mention your TFT is normal this may not likely. However chronic hyperthyroidism could have left some abnormalities in your heart and you may experience intermittent irregular heart beat we call atrial fibrillation. The tests that we recommend are ECG and may consider 24 hour or longer HOLTER ECG monitoring to detect any paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. We also suggest to do echocardiogram which is an ultrasound of the heart to look for any enlarged heart from previous hyperthyroidism. Stress ECG testing may not benefit to look for cause of irregular heart beat but can be done as part of cardiac screening.
