Is the best way to recover from a herniated disc/slipped disc physiotherapy?
I have a re-herniated disc and I visited a physio centre in PJ for help. Very helpful and informative. From my experience and research, there is no magic pill to curing it. It needs time and the right exercise to help our body heal. I can still walk, and I do not think I will be needing injections or surgery as of now. Currently, I have pain sitting down, and when standing up from sitting position it is so very pain. The best relive for me is lying face down on bed. Slow walk for longer hour also helps. However, a friend of mine said this, "You should seek for specialist advice to cure it instead of using physio to relieve the pain".Is it true what he said? Do hospital doctors not recommend physiotherapy for herniated disc and sciatica?

Answer:
I'm sorry to hear about your re-herniated disc. As a general practitioner, I recommend a combination of treatments to help manage your condition. Here are some suggestions:

1. Physical Therapy: It's great that you visited a physio center, as physical therapy can help strengthen the muscles around the spine, improve flexibility, and reduce pain.

2. Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help relieve pain and inflammation. Your doctor may also prescribe stronger medications if needed.

3. Hot and Cold Therapy: Applying heat or ice packs can help alleviate pain and reduce swelling. Alternate between the two for 20 minutes at a time.

4. Lifestyle Changes: Maintaining a healthy weight, practicing good posture, and avoiding activities that worsen your symptoms can help prevent further injury.

5. Surgery: In severe cases where conservative treatments are not effective, surgery may be considered to repair the herniated disc.

Please consult with your healthcare provider for a personalized treatment plan based on your specific condition. Regular follow-ups and adherence to the prescribed treatment regimen are important for managing re-herniated discs effectively.
