What happens before a catheterization procedure?

Prior to a cardiac catheterization procedure, patients may be overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety and find it difficult to cope with certain emotional demands. Hence, you will be provided with the best attention throughout every step of the journey.

Before carrying out the procedure, patients would first be made to prepare. Patients will be required to produce information on current general health, perform physical examinations and provide blood samples to be deemed fit for the procedure.

During this time, it would also be best for patients to declare to doctors about any medication history as it may cause complications during or post-procedure.

Generally, cardiac catheterization only takes approximately 30 minutes (except for unique interventions), but if added to total preparation and recovery time, the entire process could extend up to several hours. Therefore, plan ahead and be prepared to keep an entire day free to complete the procedure.
