COVID-19 Vaccination Centre/PPV

Pantai Hospitals is proud to be part of Malaysia’s concerted effort in providing vaccination to the population through the National Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Safety at the PPVs is of utmost priority and Pantai Hospitals adhere to the strict measures enforced by the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors at vaccination centres.

Here’s a guide to what you should do before, during, and after your COVID-19 vaccination.

What is a PPV?

To fight the Covid-19 pandemic, the Malaysian government has set up PPVs across the country as part of the National Immunisation Programme. These PPVs are staffed with medical personnel who are tasked with the sole purpose of vaccinating the population against the coronavirus.

To get an appointment at one of the many PPVs, all you need to do is download the MySejahtera mobile application and register for your vaccine via the application.

Checklist before going to the vaccination centre

Before you head over for your COVID-19 vaccination appointment, here’s what you should know to ensure best possible experience:

  • Have sufficient sleep, be well rested and as healthy as possible before each jab.
  • Waiting times may vary, so eat something before you leave home.
  • Limit the consumption of excessive caffeine or any alcohol prior to your vaccination as it may exacerbate any symptoms you may have post-vaccine including headaches and nausea.
  • Plan your journey to your appointed PPV.
  • Follow the guide on appropriate attire.
  • Wear loose clothing or short sleeves that can be easily rolled-up so that health workers have easy access to your arm to administer the vaccine.
  • Ensure your phone is charged and MySejahtera is updated.
  • Have your NRIC/Passport on hand.
  • Do accompany your dependant if their appointment is linked to your MySejahtera account.
  • Ensure you have a mask with you and keep it on at all times.
  • If you have known exposure or symptoms, or are not feeling well, reschedule your vaccination appointment and self-isolate.

Note: For 2nd dose appointment, do remember to bring along your vaccine appointment card, consent form and NRIC/Passport.

Remember to follow SOPs such as wearing masks, practice hand hygiene and physical distancing when you are at the PPV.

Vaccination aftercare:

Post-vaccination, it is essential to keep in mind that your symptoms may differ from those around you. Everybody reacts to the vaccine differently, and this guide will help you distinguish what is common and what requires medical attention.

Remain at the observation area to be monitored for any severe reactions. These are likely to occur within 15 minutes of your vaccination, and medical staff will be on hand to ensure any of these rare reactions are dealt with immediately.

  • Monitor for side effects for the next 3 days. They should subside thereafter.
  • Common side effects include chills, mild fever, lethargy, headaches, joint pain and/or muscle ache, irritability, decreased appetite and nausea. If you experience one or more of these, take two tablets of 500mg paracetamol every 6 hours (up to 8 tablets per day) or as needed.
  • If your symptoms persist or worsen 4 days after your vaccination, please consult a doctor.
  • In the event that you experience any of the more severe side effects such as itching, fainting, vomiting, wheezing, difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath, please consult a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience any allergic reactions after the booster dose, you can submit a report via the MySejahtera app.

Paracetamol has been widely recommended by public health authorities globally as a safe treatment for the majority of post-vaccine reactions, such as fever and mild to moderate pain. However, patients should always seek appropriate medical advice and local guidance before consuming paracetamol should there be any known allergies or intolerance of the drug.

Hydration is essential post-vaccination, particularly if you have any side effects. Ensuring adequate hydration and rest will allow the body to acclimatise to the effects of the vaccine quicker. Do not exert yourself too much in the days following the vaccination to ensure you do not exacerbate any of the symptoms. It is recommended that you do not partake in strenuous activities for a week after receiving your vaccinations.
