Accident & Emergency in Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani

Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani ’s Accident & Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day and well-equipped to handle any injury or medical emergency, 24 hours a day every day. At the A&E department, our dedicated team of doctors and nurses are specially trained for emergency situations. They will evaluate the situation immediately using triage which is a process of sorting or categorizing patients based on the severity of their conditions. The most severe cases with life-threatening conditions will be our topmost priority, while the rest may need a 15 - 30 minutes wait, depending on the number of patients at the A&E.

In addition to having a team of emergency doctors and nurses assessing and managing your case, a multidisciplinary team of specialists and surgeons are also on call to attend to complex medical conditions.

Triage & Waiting Time

The triage system is used to sort patients into categories so those with urgent medical needs get attention first. The assessment is based on history, physical and vital signs assesment ( eg: concious level, blood pressure, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturation, sugar level ) upon arrival at the emergency

An overview of three category triage acuity systems;There are 3 Zone In ED, Red, Yellow and Green. Red will be seen immediatelly, yellow within 15 minutes and green within 90 minutes.

Red Zone: Emergency

  • Immediately life or limb threatening

  • Recommended reassesment
  • Continuous

  • Examples
  • Cardiopulmonary arrest,severe respiratory distress, major burns, major trauma, massive uncontrolled, status epilepticus, unconsciousness..

Yellow Zone: Urgent

  • Acuity
  • Requires prompt care, but will not cause loss of life or limb if left untreated for several hours.

  • Recommended reassesment
  • Every 30 minutes

  • Examples
  • Abdominal pain, non-cardiac chest pain, multiple fractures, lacerations, renal calculi

Green Zone: Non Urgent

  • Acuity
  • Need treatment but time is not a critical factor

  • Recommended reassesment
  • Every 1-2 hrs

  • Example
  • Rash, chronic headache, sprains, runny nose
