Feel while lying down

Lie down with your left arm under your head. Use your right hand to gently feel your left breast with your three middle fingers, moving in small circular motions.

Check for lumps, knots, or thickening. Apply different levels of pressure from your collarbone above your breast down to the ribs below. Repeat on other breast.

Look in the mirror

Stand with your hands on your hips and check your breast in the mirror. Look for lumps, swelling, dimpling, or changes in size or shape.

Check under arms

Raise one arm at a time to feel for any lumps in your underarm area.

Check the nipples

Gently squeeze each nipple between your thumb and index finger. If you notice discharge, fluid, lumps, or any changes, report them to your healthcare provider.
